Fás, Bia, Beo (Grow, Food, Live) is a living, breathing community space rooted in the heart of our neighbourhood. Run by the community for the community, this urban farm and garden is a place where everyone is welcome to get their hands in the soil, grow real food and connect with the land beneath their feet. Every inch of our space is edible, every creature is cared for, and nothing goes to waste. From our buzzing beehives to our free ranging hens, from seed to table, Fás, Bia, Beo celebrates the richness of Irish food culture and the ancient relationship between people and the land. It is a space to breathe, to belong, to grow together.
The Mary Robinson Centre brings together a number of community groups to produce a living art installation in our Urban Farm and Garden. The Urban Farm and Garden is a space where biodiversity and sustainability are central, and organic gardening principles are followed throughout. Maintained by volunteer gardeners and local community groups, it serves as an inspirational educational resource. It demonstrates how a sustainable, biodiverse green space can be created and cared for by the community for the community.
Western Care is an active presence in the urban farm, participating daily through the Bridge Initiative. Participants care for the hens, collect eggs, and help paint and decorate the space. They bring their creativity to the living art installation, fostering independence, responsibility and social inclusion.
Ballina Youthreach supports early school-leavers, including young people from marginalised backgrounds, in developing new skills and interests. For this project, participants apply their woodwork skills to craft tables, seating and garden planters from reclaimed wooden pallets, a practical demonstration of upcycling and sustainable design.
The Mary Robinson Centre Garden Volunteers tend our biodiverse, organic garden year-round, nurturing native Irish plants that support birds and provide pollen for our bees. The garden also features an autism friendly space developed in partnership with AsIAm Ireland. For this project, the volunteers enrich the installation with vegetables, herbs, wildflowers and edible flowers.”
